Bulls sold to a top of $7250 and females to a top of $5000 at the combined vendors Southern Cross Limousin sale at Moss Vale last Friday.

The sale, conducted by Jim Hindmarsh and Co., Moss Vale, Camden and Braidwood, sold 17 bulls to a top of $7250 and average $4716.

Vendor of the top priced bull was Neil McCracken, Calderwood Limousin stud, Calderwood, who sold Calderwood Vision K481 (PU) through a phone bid to long-standing client, Tony Kelly of Wagga.

Calderwood Vision, a black 25 month-old homo polled bulled, weighed 900 kilograms and had a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres.

The low birthweight bull was sired by the highly successful carcase and maternal sire, Mandeyen Vision Y329.

Mr McCracken sold another bull for the second highest price of $7000, Calderwood Vision K475 (PU) to return client Dane Palmer, Sutton.

K457 was another black homo polled bull weighing 845kg with a scrotal circumference of 39cm.

Mr Palmer operates a commercial cattle operation running Angus and Hereford herds over three properties in the Sutton and Yass districts.

Limousin bulls are put over a select number of the breeding herd and Mr Palmer said since the introduction of Limousins there is no going back.

“It has paid for itself well and truly at the sales,” he said. “Anything with a little bit of Limo in them, we seem to be getting that premium.”

K457 will be going over 25 specially selected black cows.

Darren Turner, Southwest Limousin stud, Berry, sold two bulls to a high of $6000, with the second going for $5500.

Craig Corby, Goldstein Park Limousin stud, Cobargo, had success selling all three females packages – the highest money paid for Goldstein Park Black Glamour (PF), a black polled preg tested in calf (PTIC) cow with a black polled bull calf, Black Mandeyen Energiser H2082, at foot.

Black Glamour and her calf went to Brigalow Limousin stud, Winton, via Tamworth.

Mick and Mary Parsons, Kia Ora Limousins, Roslyn, purchased the Goldstein Park Keystone (PF) black heifer for $4000 and John Quinn, Milton took home Goldstein Park Classic Aqua (PF) 22 month-old heifer for $3500.

Ben Hindmarsh of Jim Hindmarsh and Co. said it was a good sale with a high standard of bulls on offer.

“There were a few more passed in bulls than we would like, but the average was really good,” Mr Hindmarsh said.

“We could have been short by one or two volume buyers that tend to put a floor in the market, but the females sold really well.”
