Buyers braved the chilly July afternoon to inspect and purchase Limousin bulls put on offer by Caroline Tooth of Longreach Limousin, Brayton.
Bulls reached a high of $6,500 and averaged a healthy $4,425 with 10 of the 19 bulls offered finding new homes.
Bringing the top money was Longreach Black Knight a Mandayen Vision Y329 son out of the Mimi cow family, he weighed 720 kilograms at 23 months of age and measured a scrotal circumference of 38.5 centimetres with Limousin Breedplan figures below average for birth weight, and in the top five per cent for milk.
Michael and Mary Parsons, Kia Ora Limousins, Roslyn, purchased Black Knight to use predominantly in their commercial herd.
Mrs Parsons said he will be also suitable to use in their stud herd due to his good bloodlines.
“He is a visually appealing bull, and processes a sirey outlook,” Mrs Parsons said
Local buyers and long term clients the Dival family, Towrang purchased the second top price bull Longreach King’s Standard a 780kg 24 month-old son of Premier Guardian V77 for $5,500.
John Bradley, Braidwood, purchased two sires in Longreach Knowledgabull and Longreach Kosmoplitan.
Longreach Limousins manager Kylie Jonkers expressed her satisfaction with the sale indicating majority of buyers were new clients which supported the strong legacy clients.
Mrs Tooth said the bulk of bulls left over were the younger 14 and 15 month-old bulls catalogued, which buyers did not wish to carry over.
“It was refreshing and exciting to see considerable number of new faces showing substantial interest in using Limousin in their programs,” Mrs Tooth said.
The sale was conducted by Jim Hindmarsh and Co, Moss Vale, with Ben Hindmarsh at the rostrum.
