A 520 kilogram Limousin-cross steer romped home with the grand champion sash in the trade cattle competition at the Sydney Royal Show.
The steer, a March 2015-drop calf exhibited by Don and Sarah Riley, Oakvale Stud, Tamworth, and Jeremy and Pip Walsh, Dubbo, had been on feed for 100 days.
It was sired by Raystone Black Gambler from an Oakvale commercial cow, and nicknamed ‘Haka’.
The Show’s reserve champion trade steer was a well-rounded 496kg Limousin X Angus from Williams River Cattle Company, Glenn William, and ‘Alexander Downs’, Merriwa.
Sired by a Dollarwise Limousin Bull and Comm Angus Co, 12-month old ‘Boots’ scanned 9mm on the rib and 8mm on the rump, having spent 100 days on breeder Alexander Downs’ own Feedlot Mix.
