Coming through an outstanding parade of Limousins at the 2016 National Show and Sale, a 25 month old cow with her five month old heifer calf caught the eye of judge Stephen Pearce, Telpara Hills Brangus, Atherton Tableland, Queensland, when he awarded her the Supreme Exhibit over the grand champion bull.

Warrawindi Krystal Gem K15, bred by David and Alison Galpin, Warrawindi Limousin stud, Penola, SA, comes from one of the best female lines in the stud, with her dam, Warrawindi Gem, judged grand champion at Adelaide and Melbourne Royals, and one the highest performing Limousin dams in Australia.

Mr Pearce described her as a “neat female, the sort of cow I would like in my program.”

“To me, the pair for the supreme exhibit are where the breed is heading,” he said.

“The cow is a stunning exhibit worthy of any breed, with plenty of milk for a two-year-old heifer and certainly not extreme.”

Owner David Galpin said “it doesn’t matter what breed, she is outstanding”.

“She is structurally correct, obviously very fertile and with soft silky skin,” he said.

“Her docility is faultless, and we are lucky enough to have two full sisters from our embryo donor program.”

The cow beat the junior and grand champion bull, Birubi Kaiser K140, bred by Annette Tynan, Birubi Limousin stud, Borambola, and paraded by stud manager Glenn Trout.

The junior champion female was awarded to Shalone Paula L291, bred by Eleanor Stewart, Shalone Limousin stud, Ararat, Victoria, while the senior champion bull was awarded to Warrawindi Black Diamond, a full brother to the supreme exhibit, and bred by David and Alison Galpin, Warrawindi Limousins, Penola, SA.

Mr Pearce was assisted in his judging duties by associate judge, Kate Louden, Dubbo.

It was Ms Louden’s first occasion as associate judge and she thanked the Limousin breeders for giving her the opportunity of participating alongside Stephen Pearce.

“It was a great thrill and experience,” she said.
