Young Kingaroy cattleman Corey Evans has been named the 2015 Queensland Limousin Youth Ambassador, following the three-day Queensland Limousin Youth Camp on September 25-27 at Pittsworth.

The youth ambassador is calculated on points earned from the junior judges and paraders competition, the herdsperson competition and the young auctioneers. Entrants are to be between 16 and 25 years of age, and they must be a youth member of the Australian Limousin Breeders Society.

Although he won’t say much about it, Corey has had plenty of wins on the show circuit over the years personally and with his cattle. He did however admit taking out the youth ambassador title was ‘pretty good’.

“Within the next 12 months I hope to keep promoting the Limousin breed, and really encourage the younger generation to get involved,” Corey said.

“I’ve been invited to sit in on phone interviews with the national Limousin youth committee as the Queensland representative, so that will be good. I also get the opportunity to attend the national youth camp held in Goulbourn next year.”

Corey and his brother Brent, and parents David and Jenny, founded the Jen-Daview Limousin stud in 2008. They currently run about 25 stud cows which they join to Australian, American and Canadian sires. Their progeny have proven champions from day one.

“We’ve always been competitive on the show circuit, but one of the highlights for my family was the 2014 Limousin Feature Show held at Gympie last year. We won the grand champion male and grand champion female. Our cow, Jen-Daview Feature, was then named the supreme exhibit,” Corey said.

“We also had a pretty good run at Beef Australia 2015, where we won calf champion bull, junior champion bull, reserve senior champion bull, and reserve junior heifer.”

Corey has also been highly successful in the junior judges and paraders competitions, and this was evident in 2014 where he won the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies state finals for both prime judges and paraders.

Corey was named the champion parader at the youth camp on the weekend, and he also paraded the grand champion bull, Jen-Daview Leopold.
