Limo X Steers
This Weeks "The Land" lists a number of good sales of Limousin cross
in store sales around NSW. At the Bindaree Beef Annual Weaner Sale at Inverell
NSW, Pearsby Hall Pastoral from Delungra sold Limousin X Angus steers to Goondiwindi
Qld for $735 or 236 c/kg to top the sale.
Limousin X Brahman steers from Chubbari Pty Ltd sold to Taroom Qld for $624
in the same sale.
Buyers from Southern Qld bought most of the cattle in this sale after receiving
75mm of rain last week.
At the Bega NSW Store Sale Ian Riley of Pambula topped the cow and calf section
selling five Limousin cows and calves for $1080. These went to Leongatha in
the South Gippsland area of Victoria which has also had good rain.
Euro X at Armidale
There are a number of Limousin X cattle in the Annual Premier Euro and Euro
Infused Weaner and Breeder sale at Armidale next Friday. If the Inverell Sale
is any indication they will be in strong demand.
Warragul Tops
Wayne Churchill assures me that the Warragul Vic market is one of the strongest
markets for Limousin and Limousin cross vealer calves. The following prices
support this claim.
Sale of 22 April
Acc A Griffin, Warragul 345kg @ 210 c/kg = $724
Acc D Jeffrey, Driffield 355kg @ 208.2 c/kg = $739
Acc J Britt, Lillico 347kg @ 208 c/kg = $772
Sale of 29 April
Acc H Krutsch, Vesper (pure Limo) 400kg @ 217.6 c/kg = $870
Acc E Lissenden, Vesper (pure Limo) 360kg @ 213.2 c/kg = $767
Acc K Wolfe, Lillico 410kg @ 205 c/kg = $840
Your case rests Wayne.
Success at Hawkesbury
In addition to the success of Sue Newhams females at Hawkesbury Show reported
earlier this week Ron and Margaret Bower exhibited the Junior Limousin and Supreme
All Breeds Junior Female Lavender Farm Xanthe at 19 months of age.
Congratulations Ron and Margaret.
43,000 GNS at Carlisle
I thought the $20,000 top price at our National was pretty respectable but 43,000
Guineas at the Carlisle Limousin bull sale in Scotland seems amazing.
What seems even more amazing is that the vendors Matt and Craig Ridley of the
renowned Haltcliffe herd had to completely depopulate (slaughter) their herd
just three years ago during the foot and mouth disease crisis.
To top it off the Ridleys sold two more bulls for 18,000 gns and 10,000 gns
to gross a remarkable 71,000 gns for three bulls.
Overall 178 bulls sold for an average of $3919 Pounds up by 304 Pounds on last
year.
In a sale of 49 females the equally well known Goldies herd topped the sale
at 8000 gns.

Wulfs Limousin to $24,500
The very successful Wulfs Limousin Stud in Minnesota USA had another outstanding
sale selling 195.66 bulls to a top of $24,500 and an average of $3,753 and 82
females for an average of $2,419 to gross $932,650 in late March.
The top selling bull Wulfs Nasa 1212N was a black scurred son of Wulfs Fanfare
4055F out of Miss Wulfette 1212L.
An indication of the trend to black in the USA is that four of the five top
selling bulls were black. All five were polled.
Irish and keen to see Limousin in Australia
I have had an email from the sister of Ciaran McEldowney from Northern Ireland
who is coming to Australia in mid June for about a month.
Ciaran runs a pedigree Limousin herd in Ireland and according to his sister
"lives and breathes Limousin".
Ciaran who is 28 years old and an electrician by trade is coming with a friend
John who is an engineer by trade. They would love to spend some time on a property
in NSW which runs Limousin cattle.
If you would like some free labour in exchange for lodgings and food and I am
sure some interesting Irish company please drop me an email.
L1 Forms
If you have paid your cow inventory fees you should have received your pre-printed
L1 registration forms for 2004 born calves by now.
If you have not received your L1 forms it is probably because you have not yet
paid your cow inventory fees. With the demand for registered Limousin females
I suggest you leave as many on your inventory as possible.
Yours in Limousin
Alex McDonald
