Sydney Royal Show Results

In an outstanding showing of 118 Limousin cattle judged on Sunday by Graham Williams the Supreme Champion exhibit was Premier Exotic U75 exhibited by Fred and Michelle Geard of Berrima NSW.
The Grand Champion Bull was Newton Wood X Cathedra exhibited by Glyn and Ann Williams of Murrumbateman NSW. This bull was also Junior Champion Bull.
Junior Champion Female was Donna Valley Young Lady exhibited by Greg and Mary Withers of Holbrook NSW and Senior Champion bull was Rosehill X289 exhibited by John and Rosemary McCarthy of Clifton QLD.

Sydney Steer Champion
In a "fairy tale" story a black Limousin steer won by Billabong High School (Culcairn NSW) at the 2003 National Junior Judging Competition was crowned the Grand Champion Steer at the Sydney Royal. The steer was early judged the Champion School's Heavyweight Steer and Grand Champion School Steer.
In the open steer judging a black Limousin steer exhibited by Limousin breeder and meat processor and wholesaler Warren Scifleet of Coonabarabran NSW was the Medium Weight Champion.
The Open Heavyweight Champion steer was yet another black Limousin steer exhibited by Dunkeld Farms at Bathurst NSW.
In the Schools Heavyweight and Open Heavyweight classes the first four placings were purebred Limousin steers.
A class winner in the Open 511-549kg liveweight class was a Tobias Limousin Stud entry paraded by Abbotsleigh Girls School of Sydney.

Sale Toppers at Gunnedah

Margaret and Les Alcorn faxed in some very good sale prices for pure Limousin steers and heifers sold in a "down market" at Gunnedah Saleyards on 23 March.
One steer weighting 740kg sold for 174.2 c/kg or $1289.
Five steers averaging 570kg sold for 180.6 c/kg or $1029 and seven yearling heifers weighing 403kg made 172.2 c/kg or $694.
Needless to say they were all the top priced animals in their category on the day.

Lardner (Vic) Sale tops at $5700

After a slow start the Lardner Bull Sale finished strongly with 25 of the 26 bulls selling to a top of $5700 and an average of $3594. The top priced bull Ingleside Xavier Kostka was sold by Bob and Marie Fels of Balnarring to Gilbert Richardson of Vic who runs 200 breeders at Bete Bolong in East Gippsland.
The second top price of $5600 was paid for the only black bull in the sale Keystone Extreme sold by the Keys Family of Springhurst Vic.
Bob and Marie Fels also sold Ingleside Xavier Francis for $3400 and Ingleside Xavier Bellarine for $5200 to average $4770 for their three bulls.
BSG Xdude sold by Ben and Susan Garrett of Moe for $5100 and junior member Lachlan Smirl sold Hallmark Xcel for $5000.
Keith McCubbin and Betty Banfields of Clifton View Limousins at Bairnsdale sold two bulls at $4600 in their first Lardner sale.
Bob and Marie Fels also topped the female sale selling Ingleside Xavier Epiphany, a two year old cow with a Western Park Umberto heifer calf at foot for $4300, and Ingleside Xavier Bellarmine for $3200.
All five females offered were sold for an average of $3160.


Hot All Black Sale at Sydney Royal

The All Black Sale at Sydney Royal was "on fire" despite the very wet conditions outside.
Michael O'Sullivan's Kensal Xcalibur, a homozygous black Vegemite Kid son earlier judged Reserve Junior Champion Bull set the pace selling at $9000 to the Ballina Limousin Stud at Muswellbrook NSW.
Kathy Curran then sold Deepfields Honey's Yum for $5000 for the two bulls sold to average $7000.
Top priced female was Kensal Black Pearl Y011, a black and polled Thunder Down Under daughter, sold for $6250 in a great result for Kensal Limousins.
Kathy Curran sold the pick of two black heifers for $4250 with the buyer taking the Wulfs Guardian daughter Deepfields Xcite Me. She sold the second heifer a SLDJ Polled Equity daughter for $3800 after the sale. The six females sold at auction averaged $4000 in a complete clearance.
A package of four embryos by DJ Gentleman In Black from Kensal Black Fancy W61 sold for $525 per embryo to complete a very good sale for Kensal Limousin Stud.

Sydney Carcases
Limousin were "pipped at the post" in the Sydney Royal Carcase Competition. The Reserve Champion Middleweight Steer was a Limosuin shown by Ian Hendy of Dukeld Farms and Mark Ryan of "Edenvale" at Bathurst.
The Reserve Champion Heavyweight Steer was a Limousin bred by Phil and Barbara Bricknell of Curububula NSW and prepared by St Johns School at Dubbo.
This steer was one of an outstanding team of 11 Limousin steers prepared and exhibited by St Johns School under the under the expert tuition of teacher Ben Toll.
In the schools Heavyweight Competition Limousins took out eight of the ten top places.
In class 9, 430-460kg liveweight Limousins finished second D & C Bourke and third Warren Scifleet.
In class 10 461-510kg Limousins finished third Phil & Barbara Bricknell and fourth Les & Margaret Alcorn.
In class 11 511-549kg liveweight Limousin finished third Nutwood Limousins, fourth Wilworril Limousins and 5th Les and Margaret Alcorn.
In class 12 Limousin finished second Bricknells, third Steer Partnership and fourth Dunkeld Farms.
Limousins finished third behind Angus and Murray Grey in the Stan Hill Trophy for three steers.

2004 ILC Conference
We have 32 Australians going to the International Limousin Conference in the UK in early August.
Twenty-one of these are participating in a pre conference tour to Limoge in France, the home of Limousin.
If you make a last minute decision to come on the tour please contact the office by 30th April to get the early bird rate.
