Just
about anybody I talk to around Australia is desperate for some rain. The very
dry conditions over much of Australia has caused a fall of 12 cents/kg in the
Eastern Young Cattle Indicator to 365 c/kg which is 48 cents less than the same
time last year.
South
Korea may reopen access to US beef as early as October according to the South
Korea Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. If the US passes inspection imports
will be limited to boneless product from animals 30 months of age or younger.
A
July survey of 651 Korean housewives found that 70 percent had no interest in
buying US beef, even though the government is set to lift its ban. This
indicates that the return of US beef to this market will not be rapid.
Next
week will see three important Limousin sales. On Tuesday 29th will
be the Birubi Limousin, Angus and Lim-Flex Sale at Borambola near Wagga Wagga,
NSW with 57 Limousin and Lim-Flex lots. The Glenview Western Bull Sale with 51
bulls listed will be held at Dalby on Friday 18th September and the
16th Hunter Valley Bull and Female Sale will be held on Saturday 2nd
September at Singleton.
The
catalogues for the QTL-Tramahler Bull Sale at Rockhampton on 26th
September and the Stevens Female and Bull Sale at Birriwa, NSW on 29th

One volume vendor I did not
mention in last week's report of the Scone sale was Phil and Barbara
Bricknell's King Creek Limousins who sold eight bulls to a top of $5,250 and an
average of $3,344.
