PERTH ROYAL HOOF AND HOOK SUCCESS

Limousin cross steers invariably do well in the Perth Royal Hoof and Hook Competition and this year was no exception. In the hoof judging the Grand Champion Prime (unled) animal which then became Supreme animal was a Limousin X Murray Grey exhibited by Tullibardine Pty Ltd from Albany, WA. The Supreme Carcase was a Dexter X Limousin exhibited by Mick and Trish Cabassi who run the Leipold Limousin Stud as well as a Dexter stud at Oldbury, WA. I have questioned the ability of a Dexter bull to serve a Limousin cow but have been assured by Trish who also provided some photographic evidence that it was a young heifer they were keen to join young and a very determined Dexter bull.

The Cabassis also had success with a Limousin X Dexter in the on hoof judging with the steer wining its class and the Light Weight Led Steer Championship.

Kelmscott Senior High School were also successful in the led steer competition with a Murray Grey X Limousin taking out the Medium Weight Championship. This steer was also the Reserve Champion Medium Weight Carcase.

BREEDERS OF MELBOURNE ROYAL STEERS

Elke Lissenden has sent in a little more information about the breeders of successful steers in the Melbourne Royal Competition. The ¾ Limousin ¼ Angus heifer shown by Nagle College which won the Heavy Domestic Class on the Hoof and was the Reserve Champion Heavy Domestic Carcase was bred by Elke and Nigel Lissenden of Teken Limousins at Vesper, Vic.

Edgar and Denise Rule of Eden Park Limousins bred the steer exhibited by Marist-Sion College which won its class on the hook and Helmut Krutsch bred the Limousin X Angus steer which was shown by Cairo Christian School which was highly commended on the hoof and scored well in the carcase section with 83 points.

WARWICK CARCASE CLASSIC
ON HOOF

Limousin cross cattle were placed first on hoof in six of the seven classes in the Warwick Carcase Classic yesterday. The champion was a Limousin X heifer exhibited by Alan Crawford and family of Kingaroy. The Crawfords who have bought some high priced Limousin bulls over the years won four of the seven classes and gained a number of placings. The champion grain fed steer was a Limousin cross exhibited by Bill Gross.

However they had hot competition from Alan and Val Crawford who had 24 Limousin cross cattle entered in the competition. The Crawfords were most successful exhibitors wining 11 of the 23 hoof ribbons and four of the seven classes on the hook.
