Wanted - High Content Commercial Heifers

Have had a call from a commercial breeder at Jondaryon in Queensland looking to buy good quality Limousin heifers for his commercial herd.  If you have suitable heifers for sale in southern Qld please contact the office.

Solid Trade In

One of the great benefits of Limousin bulls is their "trade in" price when they reach the end of their often considerable working life.

Kurboo Limousins sold two old Limousin bulls weighing 1063kg at Forbes Saleyards on Monday for 190 c/kg or $2,028 each.  That represents a very good trade in price.

Interbreed in Tasmania

Allan and Anita Dixons Lintwood Limousin Stud took out the Supreme Interbreed Cow Award at the Launceston Royal Show a couple of weeks ago.  The winning cow Lintwood Polled Xotic is a 29 month old FTL Double Agent daughter which had a 6 month calf at foot.

Exotic is following in the footsteps of her mother Lintwood Sunshine who won the interbreed cow award at Launceston for two successive years.

Lintwood also performed well in the bull sections at Launceston winning Junior and Grand Champion Limousin Bull and Reserve Junior Champion Interbreed Bull with Lintwood Your Kidding a Lintwood Very Impressive son.

The Junior female title was taken out by the Jones family's Badger View Yvette by SLDJ Polled Equity from Badger View Tina.

Bridgewater Sale Topper

Allan and Anita Dixon have also had success in the saleyard with  a Limousin X vealer weighing 453kg selling for 214 c/kg or $969 at Bridgewater Saleyards recently.

From Stock & Land

Across most markets, better quality B2 vealers, and yearlings which weighed 320kg to 420kg made mostly between 196 c and 215 c/kg.  However at Pakenham last Monday, livestock agent Everitt and Seeley Pty Ltd, offered two lines of Limousin cross vealers of top quality.  Partner Michael Everitt said, "Sue Gray of Main Ridge, and Newlyn Farms of Merricks, sold 16 vealers each".

These vealers were of excellent quality, and all made between 200 c and the market top of 230.6 c/kg.  Mr Everitt said "these calves were no older than 10 months," and three steers sold together weighed 418kg.

Don't Forget

The Ben Darroch Annual Production Sale including 45 females, 21 young bulls and 5 embryo packages is on at 1.00pm next Thursday 18 November on farm at the Ben Darroch Stud.

Judging by the amount of activity on the Ben Darroch web catalogue there is considerable interest in the sale.

Performance Data

Make sure you have all of your animals registered or  recorded in time to submit performance data by 3 December for the next Limousin BREEDPLAN analysis.

We now have two more "experts" at submitting registrations and performance data via the web once they received a little coaching from the ALBS office.
