Woolworths Want Yield??
"If Woolworths/Safeways was able to lift the yield of the carcases it processes
by only one percent its profit would increase by $12.5 million annually.
An increase in live muscle score from C to B produces 1.8 percent higher dressing
percentage plus 1.5% higher retail yield"
Dick Whale, Genetics Consultant Elders
And Limousin is the perfect solution for producing B muscle progeny from C muscle
British breed cows which are ideal for the largest beef retailer in Australia.
Limo Bull to the Back of Bourke
Had a phone call from Barry Nott who manages Kaludabah stud at Mudgee to say
they had just sold a bull to a commercial breeder who runs 1000 breeding cows
west of Bourke.
Barry also reported the sale of Ulupna New Hope at 12 years of age. New Hope
has been the stud sire to back up the AI program at Kaludabah for the last 10
years and deserves "a rest". For good measure he weighed 1040kg and
sold for 141 c/kg or $1466. That should cover board and lodging for his long
"working holiday" at Kaludabah!
Kaludabah and Dunmoogan the two properties owned by Don and Cecile Bourke are
almost totally destocked due to the devastating impact of locusts in mid April
which ate every green shoot and destroyed the perennial pastures in Kaludabah.
Fortunately the Bourkes have found an agistment on a 6000 acre property on the
north coast of NSW so have been able to keep their 650 cow EU accredited commercial
herd intact.
If it is not flood, fire or drought it's "bloody locusts".
Greg and Joan Stevens of Stevens Limousins at Birriwa north of Mudgee were also
devastated by the locust plague and have had to destock to another property.
Northern NSW Beef Week
The Northern NSW Beef Week is on in the week commencing 21st of June. There
are a number of Limousin studs open during this inaugural beef week for northern
NSW.
The full program is in a supplement to this weeks "The Land".

Steplen Down Limousin Stud from Gunnedah.
