Girls beat
the Boys
Purebred Limousin heifers
took out the major prizes in the Dubbo National "Steer" Show last
week. The Champion Purebred on Hoof which also finished second on the
hook in the over 450kg purebred class with 87.5 points was exhibited by Baradine
Central School.
The Champion overall animal
for the show for combined hoof and hook results was shown by St Lawrence
Central School of Coonabarabran. Both heifers were bred by Charles and
Vicky Carmichael's Timor Limousin Stud.
Limousin cross cattle also
featured in the crossbred classes. The Champion Crossbred Steer on the
Hoof was a Limousin X Romagnola exhibited by Delia Markcrow of Blayney NSW and
the Reserve Champion was a Charolais X Limousin X Murray Grey shown by St Johns
College of Dubbo.
A line of steers bred by
Steven Hubbard of Baradine which were by a Murray Grey bull from Limousin X
Shorthorn cows also achieved success for the Baradine and St Lawrence schools.
On the hoof these steers took
out 1st in lightweight crossbred class and 1st and 2nd in the heavyweight
crossbred class. On the hook they took out 1st in the lightweight
crossbred class and 1st and 2nd in the heavyweight class as well as Champion
and Reserve Champion crossbred carcases.
The dams of these steers were
also sired by Timor bulls.
Perth Also
I overlooked
mentioning that the Limousin X Simmental Lightweight Champion Carcase at Perth
Royal exhibited by Arthur Dewar and Jane Bellinge was also a heifer.
North
Coast National Success
Purebred Limousin steers
exhibited by John Nicholls of Casino took out the Champion and Reserve Champion
Carcase awards at the keenly contested North Coast National Steer Show at
Lismore.
The steer with the Champion
Carcase also won the 421-500kg hoof class and was Reserve Champion led steer.
The Reserve Champion carcase was from a steer that was second in the over 500kg
hoof class.
Limousins also dominated the
groups of three on the hoof and hook which included one of John Nicholls steers
and two from Don and Sarah Riley of Duri near Tamworth NSW.
Elders
Internet Embryo Auction
Three of the eight Limousin
lots of four embryos sold at auction and a further lot sold after the on line
auction sale.
Top priced lot was the
Ramornie Explosion T8 X Mandayen Starr lot offered by Len and Damian Gommers of
Mandayen Limousins at $510 per embryo.
The same vendors offered
the other two lots sold at auction with the Wulfs Rambler X Romswood
Jemima lot selling for $470 per embryo and the Chaz First Choice X Lloyds Black
Polled Nicky lot selling for $410 per embryo.
The Dauphin X Collian Park
Jodie lot offered by Peter Chew sold after the auction.
Sale coordinator Tim Bayliss
from Elders said he was pleased with the results of the first Limousin
lots offered on the internet sale and that offers on the remaining four
Limousin lots would be considered.
Only two of the 17 Angus lots
and none of the Senepol lots sold at auction.

Limousin
Heifer Tops at Windsor

the recent all breeds stud sale at Windsor on the western outskirts of
Sydney. Their 20 month old registered heifer sold for $3,200 in a very
pleasing result for the relatively new Limousin breeders.
Auctions
Plus Sale Toppers
A line of 76 three quarter
Limousin steer and heifer vealers topped last Fridays Auctions Plus electronic
auction at 238.8 c/kg liveweight on farm. The 9-10 month vealers weighing

to end up at Woolworths who Robert supplies on a regular basis.
Don't Give
Up
Many members are submitting
registrations and performance data via our web entry system.
Most have mastered the user
friendly system fairly quickly but a few appear to have given up in
frustration.
Please don't give up - get on
the phone to the office and we will guide you through any hurdles so that you
too will master the challenge.
Reminder
To be included in the annual
Limousin BREEDPLAN analysis weights and docility scores must be received by 3
December unless you are submitting via the web where you have until 10
December.
Remember that your animals
must be registered or recorded before you submit performance data so you need
to allow at least a week before performance data can go up (even if you
register on the web).
