Premier Cauliflower goes all the way in Melbourne

Premier Cauliflower the 6 year old cow which was crowned the European/Bos Indicus interbreed Champion cow last week went on to take out the all breeds Champion cow and the Supreme beef exhibit of the 2003 Melbourne Royal Show with a unanimous first placed vote from the eight judges on Sunday.

P. Cauliflower was exhibited by breeders Fred and Michelle Geard in her final showing under the Geard's ownership as new owners Joe and Glenice Brothers will take her home from the Melbourne Royal in a $20,000 deal negotiated before the show. The Geard's and parader, Peter Kylstra were thrilled with the outstanding victory by their multiple show champion cow as were the new owners, Joe and Glenice Brothers of Lochton Limousin Stud.

Limousin steers shine in Perth

An outstanding Limousin steer took out the Dick Dempster Memorial Trophy for the Supreme Exhibit on hoof at the Perth Royal Show on Monday. Exhibited by Henry Strating the 582 kg steer had earlier taken out the Extra Heavyweight and Grand Champion prime cattle award judged by Landmark Stud stock agent John Wirth.

The steer later sold for $4,400 to leading Perth butchers,Rocco Meats.

Other Championship broad ribbons in the Prime Cattle competition for Limousin were Champion Lightweight, a 3/4 Limousin X Hereford exhibited by Esperance Senior High School and Reserve Champion Heavyweight, a pure limousin exhibited by Michael and Trish Cabassi. The 398 kg Champion Lightweight steer later sold for $1400 and the 486 kg Reserve Heavyweight Champion sold for $1220

In the led steer competition on hoof, Kelmscott Senior High School took out the Reserve Champion heavyweight with a Limousin X Saler and Michael and Trish Cabassi took out Reserve Champion Heavyweight with a Limousin X Brangus. The 406 kg Kelmscott steer sold for $1200 and the 498 Cabassi steer sold for $1900 both bought by leading WA wholesalers, Heppell Meats.

Goodwood Xtra Thickness Supreme at Perth Royal

Goodwood Xtra Thickness exhott Senior High School ibited by C.R. & A. L. Dimasi took out the Supreme exhibit award at the Perth Royal Show.The 17 month old bull by Goodwood Smart Boy out of Mycara Suzanne was initially made the Junior Champion bull and then Grand Champion bull under USA judge Dr .John Edwards.

Senior champion bull was Tanholm Vine bred by Kel and Inger Sorenson and exhibited by Jane Bellinge.

The Grand Champion female was Willendaise Trina Girl exhibited by young breeder Adam Gregory in only his second showing at the Perth Royal. The Wilson Downs Atlas cow was purchased from the breeders Barry and Cathy Burgess.

Junior Champion female was Aldgate Extravaganza, a 17 month old heifer by Aldgate Veteran exhibited by the Terpstra family.

Most successful exhibitors were the Terpstra family's Aldgate Limousin Stud who had an excellent showing including first and second in the female performance class.

Good attendance at member workshops.

Member workshops held in Victoria, SA and WA have been well attended and well received.

The workshops at Lanaud Limousin Stud at Warrnambool Vic, Rockleigh Limousin Stud at Rockleigh in SA, Palmdale Limousin Stud at Many Peaks WA and Brunswick Show Grounds in WA have each been attended by between 20 and 35 people including Limousin members, commercial breeders and stock agents.

The field day programs have included Powerpoint presentations on using the Limousin website, The importance of Docility, the Limousin Assurance Program and How to make money out of EBVs and $Indexes together with practical demonstrations of docility scoring and muscle scoring have been very well received by those attending according to the workshop evaluations they provided after the workshops.

Six of Twelve "0n the hooks" at Perth Royal

In a strong performance Limousin and Limousin cross cattle took six of the twelve broad ribbons in the Colin Pearse Prime Steer and Carcase Competition at the Perth Royal Show Carcase competition. A pure Limousin steer exhibited by Michael and Trish Cabassi was the Reserve Grand Champion Carcase after being the Champion Heavyweight carcase with 95 points.

A 3/4 Limousin X Hereford steer exhibited by Esperance Senior High School was placed third in the Lightweight class and a LimousinX Saler heifer exhibited by Kelmscott SHS won the Middleweight class with 90.9 points.

Limousin influenced cattle took out the trifecta in the heavyweight class with a LimousinX Charolais steer from Cunderdin Agricultural College in second place and a pure Limousin exhibited by Henry Strating/Superior Blondes in third place.

In the Extra Heavyweight class a Limousin X Brangus shown by Michael and Trish Cabassi was placed second.
