What's Happening Week Ending 26 September 2003

Melbourne Royal

In a small but quality showing of 24 head from 9 exhibitors at Melbourne Royal Show, the six year old cow, Premier Cauliflower exhibited by Premier Limousins swept all before her to take out the Supreme Limousin exhibit and then the Euro/Tropical interbreed Champion cow with all six judges placing her first.

Long time Limousin breeder, John Stubbe had a very successful showing taking out Senior Champion bull with Tuerong Park Windmill, Junior Champion female, Tuerong Park X-Act and Junior Champion Bull with Tuerong Park X-Plode under judge Stephen Branston.

The Limousin team of three steers stood second on the hoof in the Borthwick Trophy with carcase results to be announced today.

Premier Cauliflower has a new owner

Premier Cauliflower has been sold to Joe and Glenice Brothers Lochton Park Limousin Stud at Bulla on the outskirts of Melbourne. In a sale negotiated prior to the Melbourne Royal the prolific show winner changed hands for $20,000 as part of a major expansion in the Lochton Park Limousin stud. This sale reflects the widespread confidence held in the Limousin breed in southern Australia.

Junior Camp

A very successful Junior camp conducted by the Central West Promotion Group at Mudgee NSW was attended by 83 enthusiastic juniors last weekend.

Congratulations to the Central West members who worked very hard to provide a range of activities based around Limousin cattle for the juniors.

ALBS a Governor Member of the Australian Beef Industry Foundation

The Australian Limousin Breeder's Society was recognised as a Governor member of the ABIF at a Beef Industry dinner held at the famous Flemington Race Course in Melbourne last night. A wooden plaque was presented to General Manager Alex McDonald representing ALBS by ABIF General Manager Graham Truscott. ALBS are the first breed society to become a Governor member in the ABIF which aims to promote a wide range of educational activities and scholarships to encourage young people to develop careers in the beef industry and provides ALBS with the opportunity for additional funding for youth activities.

Over $10,000 was raised for ABIF in an auction at the dinner.
