Newsletter for the week ending 20 February 2004

National Show and Sale

Entries for the National Show and Sale are well up on the last few years with 45 bulls, 41 females and 8 genetic packages entered.

New vendors this year include four Queensland studs.

Updated Docility EBVs

An updated analysis which included about 450 additional docility scores was run last week and updated to the web over the weekend.

The docility EBVs of some animals have changed a little and 450 additional animals have EBVs.

Sale catalogues on the web have the updated EBVs which may differ slightly from those in recently printed catalogues.

Field Days

I have had more good reports from the Victorian and SA field days

Joe and Glenice Brothers of Lochton Limousin stud at Bulla (near Melbourne) Vic "could have sold the bulls reserved for the Colac and Lardner sales three times".

Trevor and June Kerr of Codrington (near Portland) Vic participating in the field days for the first time sold 10 bulls for between $3000 and $3500.

The Evans family had strong enquiry for bulls at there Roean stud near Naracoorte in south east South Australia and Damian Gommers had good interest in the few bulls he has left for sale.

David Armstrong of the Cressbrook Limousin stud at Victour Harbour SA had a very successful day selling weaner bulls and cows to a top of $3000 and a gross of $51,250

Good Sale at Rockhampton

There was a total clearance of the ten Limousin bulls offered in the Rockhampton All Breeds Sale. The sale topped twice at $4,500 for a bull from John and Rosemaree McCarthy's Rosehill Stud and a bull offered by John and Coral Winning's Glenview Stud. The average price was $3,250 in a very good result.

Value for Money

Tramahler (Qld) Stud principle Sheresse Tramacchi reports a private sale to a client who purchased his first Limousin bull from them in 1993.

Purchased for $1,500 the bull was finally "retired" at 13 years of age and sold for $1,200. Another example of the longevity of the Limousin breed and the amazing value Limousin bulls provide to commercial cattlemen.

Tent for Sale

Queensland Region has a large tent complete with Limousin signage for sale. If your Region or Area Promotion Group is interested please contact the Chairman of Queensland Region, John McCarthy on 07 4696 3183.

Bloomhill Honey Wins Again at Kangaroo Valley

Bloomhill Honey, a nine year old cow owned and exhibited by Kathy Curran of Deepfields Limousin Stud recently won her third Supreme Exhibit award at the Kangaroo Valley (NSW) Show.

She first won in 1996 as a yearling heifer and then followed in 1997 as a cow with her first calf at foot.

Bloomhill Honey again took out the Supreme Exhibit at the recent Kangaroo Valley Show but had to beat her 10 month old ET son which was the Junior Interbreed Bull Champion.

According to Kathy "She is still going strong and looks a picture. She is joined to the newly imported AI sire Wulfs Lowell as is her daughter Vallise".
