St Johns College, Dubbo, NSW has made history by being the first exhibitor to win all four Championship awards in the Led Steer classes at Sydney Royal. On top of that they paraded the Reserve Champion lightweight and heavyweight steers. Needless to say they were all purebred Limousin steers which succeeded in a field of 198 purebred steers of many breeds.
Three of the champion steers including the lightweight, heavyweight and schools steer champions and both reserve champion steers were bred by the Kirk family, Peak Hill NSW who have had a long and very successful association with St Johns College and Sydney Royal.
The middleweight champion and eventual Grand Champion steer was bred by Fred and Michelle Geard, Premier Limousins, Joadja, NSW and also prepared and exhibited by St Johns College.
St Johns College prepare and exhibit about 130 predominantly Limousin steers each year under the tutelage of astute agriculture teacher, Ben Toll. Their steers are always very competitive but this has to be the pinnacle of their successes. Congratulations to Ben and the nine students who prepared and led the Sydney team.
