Grand Champion steer and Borthwick Trophy at Melbourne

The Grand Champion led steer at the Melbourne Royal Show was a three quarter Lim-Flex steer bred by the Mandayen Limousin stud and exhibited by Billabong High School, Culcairn, NSW.

A team of three Limousin steers has been awarded the Borthwick Trophy for the best team of three purebred steers judged on the hoof and as carcases at this year’s Melbourne Royal Show.

The 2011 Borthwick Trophy team included a steer bred and exhibited by Bruce and Sue Griffiths of Beckenham Limousins, Kyneton, a steer bred by the Griffiths and prepared and exhibited by Finley High School as well as a steer bred by commercial Limousin breeders John and Joy Repper, Stawell, Vic and prepared and exhibited by Longerenong College, Horsham, Vic.

This win adds to the 2011 wins of the McDonald Shield in Brisbane and the O’Conner Trophy in Adelaide for teams of three steers.

Also successful in the carcase section was a Limousin X Angus steer bred by Bruce & Ann Gill, Bruangil Park Limousins, which took out the Champion Heavy Domestic carcase award.
