Lavendar Farm Dominates Albion Park Show

The Albion Park (NSW) show held last weekend proved to be an outstanding promotion for the Limousin breed and in particular Lavender Farm Limousin, now of Menangle.  Reg, Margaret and Tim Bower of Lavender Farm Limousins achieved the rare feat of taking out 3 of the 4 interbreed championships. They took home broad ribbons for Junior Champion Bull, Junior and Senior Champion Females and then Supreme Exhibit of show with their Junior Bull. They did not take a senior bull to the show!

Of particular interest at the show was the influence of Elizabeth Macarthur High School at Narellan. The school exhibited heifers owned by the Seeney family from Appin. Twelve students participated in the paraders competition, a former student, Cassie Coombe, Cassalee Limousins, exhibited her own cattle, and the judge of the day, Mr Kory Graham is a former student. Both Michael Stacey, Tamalam Limousins, and the Bower family are actively involved in the showing activities of the school. However the bright day for Limousins did not end there.

In the commercial section of the show which includes an unled hoof and hook competition the results were dominated by Limousin infused calves. Once again all placegetters in all classes were Limo crosses with the champion on the hoof being a 3/4 bred calf exhibited by long time successful breeder, Annette Barham of Dapto. Reserve champion vealer was a half bred steer exhibited by the Shortland family of Albion Park, this calf being sired by a Longreach Limousin bull.

All the entries in this competition were sired by Limousin bulls. Exhibitors have realised over the years that in order to be competitive, they must enter better muscled calves, ie Limousin or Limousin cross!!

Whilst the carcase results are not yet available, it is a forgone conclusion that the champion will be by a Limousin sire.
